A Golden Retriever named Chessie
and I began a career in 1989, when
I drew a pencil study of her head, with
that well known "golden smile". Chessie was pregnant at the time and
produced ten more subjects, and I produced
several more paintings in watercolor. Over the years since,
I have stayed busy
with commissions of many breeds in watercolor and
oil, as well as children in oil.
My favorite composition is to capture the bond
of child and dog.
Still, the Goldens have been a recurring theme, and since 1998,
I have collaborated
with The Orvis Company to print Limited Edition prints. The first was from
a watercolor of those ten puppies running on a beach on the Chesapeake
Bay, and that print, entitled "Life is Good!", sold out in a very short
time. Every year since, they have printed one or more of
my Golden paintings, and every year
I'm delighted to be able to donate some of the
Artist Proofs of those prints to organizations throughout the United
States that raise money for rescuing dogs in need, aiding guide dogs, and
preserving the environment in which we all thrive.
